EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON INFLUENCE OF INHOMOGENEOUS EXTENSION IN BASEMENT ON STRUCTURE FORMATION IN EXTENSIONAL BASINS

The comparative analysis of structures in sandbox models under different extensional conditions in base indicated that in base the local inhomogeneous extensions may cause evident variation of structural patterns in an extensional basin.It is not always true that a complex structural pattern must mean complicated tectonic processes or deformation history.In a basin inhomogeneous basement extension may form a conjugate shearing zones,whose acute angular bisectors are perpendicular to extensional orientation.
