THE EVOLUTION OF DEVONIAN COAL ACCUMULATION IN CHINA

  • Devonian is one of several coal-forming periods in China. The Coal accumulation in Devonian marked the beginning of that in late palaeozoic, which became active or even reached the climax in Permo-Carboniferous age, consisting an important period of coal accumulation in China. The Devonian deposits are well developed in South China,The coal accumulation in Devonian was controlled by the tectonic movements and the marine transgression and regression, showing a reguler migration from southwest northeast. The coal seams in Devonian were the products of littoral or neritic environment, rather than a continental environment. Some Devonian coal seams contain a great deal of cuticles, hence they are called cutinitic liptobiolith. It was intimately related to the depositional environment and to the primitive coal-forming materials.
