Characteristics and models of gaseous hydrocarbon generation from Triassic-Jurassic source rocks in Kuqa Depression

Abstract
Based on the results of pyrolysis experiment and kinetic modelling calculation,the characteristics and models of gaseous hydrocarbon generation from Jurassic coals,Jurassic mudstones and Triassic mudstones in Kuqa Depression were studied in this paper.It is shown that the Triassic-Jurassic source rocks in Kuqa Depression have good potential of gaseous hydrocarbons generation,which produce high methane yields at the medium-high thermal evolutionary stage.The gas yields generated from Jurassic coals and Jurassic mudstones are higher than those of Triassic mudstones. It is suggested that both Jurassic source rocks and Triassic source rocks are the effective gas source rocks in Kuqa Depression.But,the contribution to gas generation from Jurassic source rocks is obviously larger than that of Triassic source rocks.
