  • A simpler fractal model to estimate the joint roughness coefficient (JRC) is suggested. It can be applied to simulate rock discontinuity profiles. The rougher the surface, the greater the fractal dimension(D).An empirical equation between JRC and D was established.Using this equation, the JRC values of 6 joint profiles were estimated and they were very close to the typical JRC values.
