  • The present paper deals with the rela tionship between the peat (coal) sedimentation and the early faulting activity from example of the No. 1 thick coal seams of Stephanian in Montceau coal basin (Barrat opencast mine). The peat (coal) accumulation mechanism of this seams and the synsedimentary faulting has been discussed, allow a detailed study, one block model establised has demonstrated the structural control on the sedimentation seams, the fault "W" from reverse to normal activity during late Stephanian was connected with the tectonic framework.
