  • The coal and gas outburst and coalbed methane producibility are controlled by coal deformation. The spatial distribution of coal with different deformation has been widely investigated up to now.Based on the theories of rock mass mechanics and fractal geometry, the strength coefficient of rockmass and fractal dimension are calculated in the Shuangquan mine of Anyang mining area. The relationship among the strength coefficient of rockmass, fractal dimension, and coal deformation are discussed. It suggested that the coal ductile deformation is generally concentrated in the area with low strength coefficient of rockmass and fractal dimension.Coal and gas outburst is intense and coalbed methane development is difficult in this area. The brittle deformation of coal and coal bearing sequence is mainly concentrated in the area with high strength coefficient of rockmass and fractal dimension. The faults are well developed in this area. This conclusion is supported by the distribution of faults and deformed coal. The rock mass mechanics and fractal geometry provide a new approach for the regional prediction of coal structure spatial distribution.
