Hydrogeological conditions and their effect on the coalbed methane enrichment in Liuhuanggou area on the south margin of Junggar basin

  • Hydrogeological conditions are one of the main controlling factors of the low-rank coalbed methane enrichment. The hydrogeological characteristics have been analyzed in Lihuanggou area of the south of Junggar basin based on hydrochemical types and hydrodynamic conditions. The effect of hydrogeological conditions on low-rank coalbed methane accumulation has been discussed. The results show that the hydrochemical type of surface water in the study area is HCO3·SO4-Ca·Na·Mg, the hydrochemical type of groundwater is Cl·SO4-(K+Na)·Ca·Mg or SO4·CI-(K+ Na)·Ca·Mg. The groundwater flows roughly from south to north controlled by terrains and geological structures and gathers in the syncline core of the northern study area. The syncline core of the northern study area is the enrichment area of low-rank coalbed methane based on the hydrochemical types and hydrodynamic conditions.
