Potential assessment of CO₂-ECBM technique in Hedong coalfield

On the basis of the integrated study of the geological conditions such as geological structures, properties of coal reservoir and gas-bearing properties in Hedong coalfield, the preliminary assessment of the potential for CBM extraction and concealing CO₂ was carried out by using CO₂-ECBM technique(for coal seams at depth from 1 000 m to 1500 m)in Hedong coalfield. The results show that CO₂-ECBM technique will increase 0.26×10¹² m³ of CBM resources, accounting for 32.1% of the total CBM resources, and the quantity of CO₂ storage will be up to 12.18×10⁸ t, equivalent to 3.2 times of CO₂ emission in 2013 in Shanxi Province.
