Abstract
Based on convincing demonstration of modern regional geological tectonic stress field in Xiamen area, with the application of superimposed fault principle, the fault stability in Xiamen area was analyzed. The fault stability can be divided into the following four types:stable, basically stable, relatively stable and unstable. Finally, using comprehensive technical means, including ground investigation, geophysical prospecting and exploration to determine the location of fault zones, fault gouge samples were collected from the typical NW-trend and NE-trend faults in Xiamen area, the fault gouge dating results of a variety of rock, including SEM, TL and ESR, showed that these faults had multiple activities during Quaternary under action of the regional tectonic stress field. It is confirmed that the application of superimposed fault principle in analysis of fault stability in Xiamen area is feasible.
