Abstract
The flat dilatometer test (DMT) theory and some application results are briefly introduced. DMT is used to study soft soil of the New Coastal Area of Tianjin. The results indicate that soil stratification for normal consolidation clay is accurate, but not suitable for soft dredger soil. The description of stress history accords with the fact except silt. The lateral earth pressure coefficient K0 is 0.65 for soft soil of which ID is 0.3, and increases along with vacuum preloading.
