Feasibility of waste backfilling in abandoned coal mine

  • In order to reduce environmental risk, a possible and environmental technique to dispose the waste in abandoned coal mines is put forward. The types of injectable waste are analyzed. The principles for selection of target strata are discussed. Three hydraulic filling methods to inject waste in abandoned coal mine, i.e., controlled backfilling, low pressure backfilling filling and high pressure injection, are proposed. In order to achieve project performance, injection pressure, fracture propagation, surface uplift should be detected and the features of injected mixture should be controlled. The initial analysis indicates that it is technically feasible to dispose waste into abandoned coal mines.
