The discovery of thrust nappe structure in Zhangwu-Heishan area, Liaoning Province and its significance for coal-searching

Abstract
Zhangwu-Heishan area in west Liaoning Province is an important perspective area for alternative resources in the periphery of Fuxin Basin. Based on recent work, EW-trending structural belt, NEE-trending Cathaysian structural belt and NNE-trending Neocathaysian structural belt were identified; near-EW-trending fold-thrust tectonic system, NE- and NNE-trending fold-thrust tectonic system, NW-trending extensional-shear fault system, and NE- and NNE-trending extensional-shear fault system were classified in this paper; a series of NE-NEE-trending thrust nappe faults, folds and thrust nappe structures which were composed of block masses separated by them were discovered; the outcrops of coal measure strata of Beipiao Formation of early Jurassic System were found out below this thrust nappe structure and predicting areas of coal occurrence were delineated; the depressed area of NNE-trending Neocathaysian structural belt was thought as the key area for coal searching in this area; and it is significant for coal-searching work in Zhangwu-Heishan area.
