Abstract:
In order to study the effect of temperature and effective stress on permeability, the permeability tests for sandstone are conducted at various temperature level and various effective pressure level. Based on the test results, the effect of temperature and effective stress on intrinsic permeability and hydraulic conductivity of sandstone are preliminarily analyzed. The testing results show that both the intrinsic permeability and hydraulic conductivity of sandstone are the function of temperature and effective stress. At the fixed temperature level, both the intrinsic permeability and hydraulic conductivity of sandstone decrease with the increasing effective stress, following the law of negative exponent. At the fixed effective pressure level, the intrinsic permeability of sandstone decreases with the increasing temperature, but the function between hydraulic conductivity and temperature is not a monotone function. So, it is improper to take no account of the effect of temperature and effective stress on rock's permeability in the engineering practice.
